Guilt-free Summer Sandals

Sandal season has arrived at last, and it has never been easier to step lively even while walking gently on the Earth. Currently there are many beautiful choices in the realm of conscious shoes this season from luxury brands to specialty footwear manufacturers. Sustainability stalwart Stella McCartney does it right by focusing on exquisite high-fashion design while making eco-friendly choices in every step of the way as if that’s what any quality conscious designer would do. Her lovely spring/summer shoe collection includes the sexy kitten heeled faux snakeskin Kapoor with a metallic gold strap. She also gives a nod to the newly popular mid-level heel height in her Linda cork wedge in nude patent canvas with ankle strap sandal. Don’t despair, though, you can still get suitable lift in the stunning pink and red color-blocked Lomax, which would add a perfect pop of color to sleek neutral ensemble.

If you’d prefer to be closer to the ground as you wander the boardwalk try something from Gucci’s Sustainable Sole collection. Due out at the end of June, Frida Gianini designed these eco-friendly Marola Green ballerina flats which are made of bio-plastic, a bio-degradable material made from compost. This Italian company has long had their attention on sustainability as they source the highest quality, often artisanally made, materials that go into the creation of their products. The antithesis of “fast fashion”, they make everything with the expectation that it will be in use for years to come. These adorable open-toed flats with elegant cut-out styling in blush, taupe, or black are no exception. Whether you pair them with a pair of denim shorts and sheer floral top or a crisp linen shirt-dress, they’ll make any outfit look timelessly sophisticated.

Compassionately designed Charmone footwear offers a beautiful line of quality European styled vegan sandals that I have been coveting for months now. Lauren Carroll and Jodi Koskella have created a charming, often whimsical, line that is as attractive as it is good to the Earth, animals, and people. For instance, the Monarch is one of their delightful flats made with beautifully twisted burgundy and taupe colored taffeta ribbon. Put them on with a pair of jeans and a lace top and you’re ready for dinner in the city. The Ginseng platform in a grass print or snappy espresso bean houndstooth canvas would also serve.

Neuaura also has a notable spring collection in a variety of styles from the ground up. Committed to animals, the environment and the vegan lifestyle, New Jersey designer Arti Upadhyay also produces gorgeous footwear. The Lily flat with adjustable straps that allows the wearer to change up the styling is genius. It comes in mustard and olive. While the Aven, a platform with woven upper and multi-straps in brown or black, has enough edge to pair nicely with any of the ankle-length pants out this season.

With so many attractive styles from which to choose there’s no reason why you can’t be both fashionable and guilt-free as you stroll through summer this year. These styles and more are available online on the manufacture’s sites.
