Cycling in itself beats traditional driving in terms of carbon footprint and health benefits any day. But did you know there are some pretty cool truly sustainable bikes out there? We made you a top 3, so get your gear on and double your cycling pleasure with these wheels:

1. Probably the coolest and most futuristic cycling device we want to share with you is The Copenhagen Wheel. This clever piece of equipment transforms ordinary bicycles into hybrid e-bikes that also function as mobile sensing units for your effort level, road conditions, carbon monoxide, temperature, etc. The Copenhagen Wheel captures the energy dissipated while cycling and braking and saves it for when you need a bit of a boost. It also maps pollution levels, traffic congestion, and road conditions in real-time. Simply use your smartphone to unlock and lock your bike, change gears and select how much the motor assists you.

2. Another type of bikes worth mentioning are the bamboo bikes. Several companies build bamboo bikes, so here are a just a few: Renovo makes strong and very sporty bamboo bikes, calfeedesign has some very design bamboo bikes and BlackStarBikes offers cool bamboo bikes made by well-paid local people in Ghana.

3. And then there is the Grasshopper, a foldable electric bike designed by David Gonçalves. The bike can also be used as a stationary exercise bike and generates and stores the energy you produce when pedaling. We are not sure it is very comfortable, but the concept is great.
