Shaolan Hsueh, Chineasy, Kickstarter@Robert Leslie 2013Chinese is probably the most difficult language to learn with its enormous number of complex characters and it takes a lot of time and perseverance from any Westerner to even understand the basics. When Taiwan-born ShaoLan started teaching her UK-raised children the Chinese language and noticed how they were struggling, she decided to look for a fun and easy way to teach them Chinese. Not being able to find an existing method that was engaging enough, ShaoLan created her own method: Chineasy.

Chineasy is a brilliantly simple method using a small set of building blocks and combining these with one or more other characters to make a compound character or make phrases. ShaoLan has made these building blocks visual and easier to grasp for Westerners using simple illustrations by Noma Bar.

Chineasy1_26359Master a few sets of building blocks and your learning will accelerate to a whole new level. With very little effort, learners will be able to read several hundred Chinese characters and phrases and gain a deeper understanding of the historical and cultural influences behind the vocabulary. Even though there are tens of thousands of Chinese characters, only a few hundred are actually necessary to comprehend basic Chinese literature and begin to delve into Chinese culture and art.

Well, we believe her Chineasy method is a big step in the right direction. It is truly a very accessible system – also for kids – and I am already getting the hang of it.
Don’t miss out on this, get the book, put it on your night stand and read a few pages every evening. It will give you access to a whole new world.
