Clean without the chemicals

Without realizing it, we can easily use a lot of chemicals while keeping our home clean. Laundry, dishwasher, doing the dishes, anti-bacterial soaps, cleaning the bathroom, etc. Not so good for the environment  – and often not so good for our health either.

We have done a little research and found some great products that limit the number of chemicals and adverse effect on the environment.

For bacteria-free kids

Vital-baby-AquaintTo keep your kids toys, bottles, soothers, hands and more clean and free from bacteria, try Aquaint. This miracle product is a revolutionary 100% NATURAL Sanitising Water that also kills 99.9% of Bacteria in seconds. The water provides the base for it to be highly effective as a cleanser, and its only other ingredient, a NATURAL ACID (Hypochlorous Acid) which is produced in the human body to fight bacteria and germs, provides its anti-bacterial properties. Aquaint is endorsed by Allergy UK as an ‘Allergy Friendly Product’. Aquaint is that safe it passed official UK Drinking Water tests, and is arguably the safest sanitiser on the market. It does not contain alcohol, fragrances, preservatives or harmful chemicals such as Triclosan, Benzalkonium Chloride (BAC), Triethanolamine, Parabens, Phthalates, Sodium Laurel Sulphate (SLS), etc. and is gentle for the skin.

We’ve tested it and it is an amazing product, especially for young parents. Safe to use from birth on the body and on about any surface. Simply spray on, no need to rinse off. Aquaint is available in a 500 ml spray and a 50 ml pocket size spray. You can buy the products here.

For the house

Eco-friendly-items-boost-spring-cleaning-EQ1ALUNN-x-largeAs it comes to cleaning the house we have two favourite brands that offer great products with very limited adverse effect on the environment: method and Ecover. About two years ago Ecover acquired method, creating probably the world’s largest green cleaning company.

For both brands, products range from house cleaning to laundry to personal care (like hand soap). We have tried and tested both brands and the products really do work well. Our personal pick is Ecover for all the bathroom cleaning, and method for the bottles that are on our kitchen counter, like hand soap, washing-up liquid and kitchen spray – we just love the design of the method bottles and the fruity scent and colours of the products.

EDISHALLINONE25_largeEcover recently launched phosphate free all-in-one dishwasher tablets.  Phosphates are a common ingredient in many dishwasher tablets that can lead to the growth of algae blooms which turn our lakes and rivers green and harm aquatic life. All Ecover products, including the new All-In-One Dishwasher Tablets, are free of this type of ingredient. Instead, Ecover uses plant and mineral based ingredients to ensure that nasty residues are not left behind in our water systems and our crockery is kept clean with sparkling results.

Few things are as annoying as cleaning out the dishwasher and finding your dishes are not completely clean, so we decided to put them to the test and see if these tablets really leave our dishes clean and sparkly. Well, we can be clear about that: they do the trick. Clean dishes, no nasty chemical aftertaste in plastics and knowing we are not hurting the environment as much. We’ve found a new addition to our fast growing collection of method and Ecover products.

The only thing we haven’t tried yet is their laundry detergents. Watch this space…
