My fitness pal – calorie counting and finding a balance

This year instead of fad diets, starvation and hitting the gym everyday, allmygoodness have decided to be part of the Be Real Campaign. We want to live a healthy lifestyle without depriving ourselves. So, how are we doing this? Calorie counting and having two to three healthy workouts a week as recommended by the NHS.

To calorie count and ensure that I am consuming the correct number of calories, I have been using My Fitness Pal. Previously, I have used this app to starve myself for the 5:2 intermittent fasting diet but this time round I’m consuming my recommended calories per day and enjoying being aware of the contents of my food.

It’s also great for realising the calories you get back through exercise. Additionally, if your phone has a pedometer it instantly syncs with this earning you calories back for running up and down stairs and to and from meetings all day long.

The app is simple enough to use and luckily has most foods and brands available and easy to select. It has a really handy blog which gives you recipes for hearty soups under 200 calories. Tomorrow, I’m making banana, vanilla and oat pancakes with lashings maple syrup and I don’t feel guilty at all.

It’s all about balance and this is a great way to help you to maintain that.
